Paradigm shift in spending pattern

Wika nga ng isang lathalain, "Clean your online dirts."

Dr. Edberto Villegas on Poverty

"Poverty is structural in that it is caused by the control of a few
over the means of production of society like water, food, fuel, machines, etc.
These must be socially-owned and their suplus given in addition to their salaries
- back to the producers to uplift their welfare.
Even those who cannot work must be supported by society to uphold the dignity of man.
But the lazy will just be given a basic allowance in order to encourage him/her to work.
Society will provide jobs to everyone according to their inclinations.
It's not true that there will always be the poor among us
for man can entirely eliminate poverty."

Cooperative learning

This semester, my NSTP (freshies), DS 100 (sophies) and DS 112 (juniors) classes have exactly the same number of enroled students (37 each). In order to take advantage of the situation, there will be collaborative projects/assignments with member(s) coming from each year level. I might also assign each group with one senior student to act as consultant. This is my first attempt to institutionalize cooperative learning across year levels in my subjects. Inaasahan ang pakikiisa ng lahat. Salamat.

Green parks

Not all urban parklands are green parks. According to Prof. Natividad Lacdan*, some urban parks have more cemented portions than plants and trees. She added that the establishment of miniforests such as Quezon Memorial Circle and Parks and Wildlife are steps toward the right direction but continuous tree planting is needed in order to transform them into good green parks.

  • Many incumbent department secretaries and other high-profile appointees aspire to run as senators in 2010 confident that their national exposure and the administration's massive machinery will lead them to victory. But they should be wary of GMA's overt endorsement as it is a vote reducing variable (read: kiss of death).

Postmodern history

"World history doesn't exist because of the impossibility of coming up with
one canon of history for a planet that is intrinsically pluralistic and relative.
Thus it is appropriate to talk about diverse civilizational histories
than one mono-story agreeable to all."

The Crime of Empire

"What the following data and conclusions point to is not just the reality of global poverty.
More importantly, what it seeks to unravel is the reality of system-driven global impoverishment and poverty-creation in support of global enrichment and wealth-creation—
a process of high crime and grand fraud made all the more pernicious, not just by its patent exploitativeness and extreme social injustice, but also by its "invisibility" and concealment by the blinders of the market. It is thus a perfect crime, until, of course, it is adequately exposed.
But, until then, it remains the world's best-kept secret."
