On social security

In light of the Typhoon Ondoy's impact on lives and livelihood, I sought the wisdom of former SSS president Corazon dela Paz about her definition of social security.

Here's her answer:

"Social security is a human right which enables a person to face/handle life's contingencies such as maternity, sickness, disability, unemployment, calamity, old age and death with a group such as family, a cooperative, a community, or a nation. There is no social justice without social security."
