Doc Ed on materialist conception of history (historical materialism)
"Ang materialist conception of history ay ang pag-aaral kung paano ang mga pwersa ng produksyon (forces of production) mula sa kalikasan, paggawa (labor) at mga kasangkapan (simpleng kagamitan at makina) ay nagpapasulpot ng mga relasyon sa produkson o social relations of production (halimbawa: relasyong magsasaka-panginoong may lupa (PML), relasyong manggagawa-kalitalista, at iba pa).
Kapag nagkaroon ng kontradiksyon ang lumang pwersa ng produksyon sa mga sumusulpot na bagong relasyon sa produksyon (halimbawa: guilds kontra pabrika) ay bumibigay ang lumang relasyon sa produksyon sa pamamagitan ng pagyanig sa lipunan (social upheavals) kagaya ng rebolusyon. Ito ay napatunayan ng kasaysayan (halimbawa: pag-aalsa ng mga alipin na nagbigay-daan sa pagdating ng pyudalismo sa Europa, rebolusyon ng mga burgis laban sa monarkiya).
Ang ideolohiya ng sosyalismo ay nabuo upang imaksimisa ang lumalabas na bagong relasyon ng produksyon dahil sa pag-abante ng teknolohiya tungo sa panlipunang pag-aari (social ownership) ng pwersa ng produksyon para hindi na mangibabaw muli ang paghahari ng iilan sa lipunan at magkaroon na ng tunay na demokrasya.
Ang interaksyon ng pwersa ng produksyon at relasyon ng produksyon ay ang tinatawag na moda ng produksyon sa lipunan. Kapitalismo ang moda ng produksyon sa US, sosyalismo sa Cuba at mala-pyudal at malakolonyal (MPMK) sa Pilipinas. Nakakaapekto ang moda ng produksyon (tinatawag ding economic base, substructure, o base structure) sa sistema ng politika at kultura. Ang ugnayang ito ay tumutukoy sa politikal ekonomya (political economy) ng lipunan.
Isinasaad ng material conception of history (historical materialism o HM) na mag-uumpisa muna pag-aralan ang materyal na kondisyon (economic conditions) ng tao para maunawaan ang kanyang politikal at kulturang kalagayan."
