Question from a Sociology masteral student:
Do 'modern' Filipinos find the Holy Week a time for religious reflection
or a respite from the daily grind?
My answer:
The Holy Week is both a religious and secular event
in varying degrees to most Filipinos.
Though it is religious in origin,
we cannot disregard its economic dimension.
Take note of a palaspas vendor I know who
considers his job as a panata and
a seasonal source of livelihood at the same time.
