Pag-aaral Pangkaunlaran

Ang siyentipikong pag-aaral ng kahirapan at pag-unlad ng lipunan ay napakahalaga lalo na sa mga atrasado at papaunlad pa lamang na bansa tulad ng Pilipinas. Sa katotohanan, kailangan ng bansa ng maraming iskolar at praktisyuner sa larangang ito ng Agham Panlipunan. Masyadong kumplikado ang katangian ng kahirapan at pag-unlad na tanging mga multidisiplinal na kurso lamang ang higit na makasusuri at makatutugon. Matagal nang nagsimula ang kilusang ito sa Europa at lumalaganap na rin sa atin. Ang pagkakaiba'y mas binibigyang diin ng Development Studies Program ng UP Manila ang tunay na repormang agraryo, pambansang industriyalisasyon at pampolitikang edukasyon bilang lunsaran at pamantayan ng ganap na kaunlaran. Q: I read a short article about chronopharmacology*. In connection with this, what time of the day would you recommend me to take my multivitamins?


A: Vitamin C and the other nutrients are best taken from fruits, vegetables and other food. I only advise supplements for my diabetic patients who may have restrictions in their food intake, the elderly, pregnant and others who may have increased need for certain nutrients that may not be provided by their ordinary diet.
Chronopharmacology may be applied in the intake of some drugs - for example, antihypertensives are best taken in the morning to address the blood pressure peaks at that time of day.

A couple of days ago, a junior student texted me to inquire about my definition of heroism. Here's my short reply:

Heroes usually emerge during periods of struggle. I consider as heroes those people who despite their vulnerable condition are able to empower themselves and transform their communities into better political and economic order.

Tanong: Ano po ang limitasyon ng pagiging issue-based lamang?

Sagot ni Doc Ed:

Ang limitasyon nito ay nakikita mo lamang ang puno, hindi ang gubat. Ang ibig sabihin ay kailangang malaman ang relasyon ng mga uri sa subistruktura (ekonomya) at batay dito matanto kung anong klase ng pulitika at kultura ang lumalabas sa partikular na lipunan. Ang mga puno ay tumutukoy sa mga isyu samantalang ang gubat naman ay ang kabuuang pampolitikang ekonomya ng isang lipunan o ang dyalektikal na interaksyon ng subistruktura (ekonomya o materyal na kondisyon) sa superistruktura (politika, kultura). Ang issue-based analysis ay kadalasang walang class analysis.
