On Poll Automation

By and large, the antiquated system of voting, counting and canvassing in the Philippines renders its elections vulnerable to various forms of cheating—both retail and wholesale. It is completely ironic that the country cannot automate its election when many Internet shops can be found everywhere and most Filipinos upgrade their cellular phone model quite very often.

Consider this: In 2007 midterm polls, it took the Comelec 23 days to proclaim the top 10 senators, 32 days for the 11th , and 62 days for the contentious 12th slot. In India with its 675 million voters, it is only 72 hours.

Poll automation is an imperative in a modern democracy.
