Relevance of the Old General Education Program

  • provides holistic education, i.e. natural sciences,
social sciences, communication, and humanities, etc.
(so that students will not only be technical experts)
  • inculcates the value of social justice
(so that the students will become socially aware and accountable)
  • standardizes UP students' general education
regardless of one's degree program or campus
(but the RGEP changed that since students can
more or less choose their preferred subjects already,
which sometimes leads to unnecessary duplications)
