Youth unemployment in the Philippines

32.2% and 18.4% of the unemployed in 2006 were
highschool and college graduates, respectively (ADB data).

It can be attributed to the following:
  • job-education mismatch
  • available jobs are project basis only
  • lack of job experience
  • declining quality of education
  • rampant contractualization and labor flexibility
  • low self-esteem, culture of defeat
